Welcome to the Shulman Weight Loss Clinic (SWLC)! After helping thousands of Canadians lose weight and keep it off, Dr. Joey Shulman and her team of nutritionists are thrilled to help you hit your goal weight in an intimate, one on one and personal setting.

Why is your program different?

After spending over a decade in the weight loss world and writing two best selling weight loss books, Dr. Joey Shulman has developed a unique approach to personally address your metabolism. At the Shulman Weight Loss Clinic, the programs are hormonally balanced in order to maximize your metabolism’s potential. The emphasis is on achieving blood sugar control (see diagram below) with personalized meal plans that contain the perfect mixture and type of carbohydrates, proteins and fats. The results? Maximum fat loss for life!

Research is very clear that sustained weight loss results are based on more than a "calories in, calories out" approach. The SWLC offers tailor made programs, meal plans and a weight loss tracking system according to your height, weight, previous dieting history and lifestyle. Each program emphasizes hormonal health (i.e. insulin reduction and blood sugar control) that keeps the weight off in an easy to maintain manner.
By achieving hormonal balance with food, you will find your sugar and/or starch cravings will be gone within approximately one week. In addition, SWLC also targets permanent behavioral changes that are the keys to success for emotional or nighttime eating. While our goal is to ensure you are successful in losing weight and feeling your best self, our primary objective is maintenance and long-term success. Once you hit your goal weight, it will be our pleasure to suit you with a maintenance program that ensures your success will last.

The weight loss world has become a little “over the top” with extreme approaches and protocols that do not empower the client. We have seen far too many people arrive at one of our clinics feeling “beat up” by what they have experienced at previous weight loss centers.

Our entire team is dedicated to making you feel secure and comfortable on your weight loss plan. Whether you are a picky eater, an emotional eater or have distinct dietary likes and dislikes that need to be addressed – our goal is to make this about YOU. There are no group appointments at Shulman Weight Loss. Rest assured, you will be meeting with your personalized nutritionist in a one on one setting each and every time to get you to your weight loss goal.

I have tried every diet in the world - I just can't lose weight!

Yes, you can. If you have tried every diet in the world- stop! Every time you gain and lose weight, you slow down your "metabolic engine" and make future weight loss attempts even harder. Do I need to buy special foods or are certain supplements required?

No, you do not. All foods will be found at your local grocery stores. Meals and snacks will be easy to prepare and satisfying. Your personal nutritionist will make exercise, lifestyle and supplement recommendations as needed to ensure you hit your goal weight in a timely manner. Our focus at Shulman Weight Loss is on:

Why do we need to come in for a FREE initial first?

It is our goal to help each and every person lose weight and get on the path of lifelong health. While Dr. Joey’s unique system of weight loss is suitable for most, there are some situations (i.e. medications, certain medical conditions etc.) that the program is not a fit for. At your free initial appointment, your nutritionist will take a thorough history to see which program is suitable for you. This will also be your time to ask more questions about your own personalized weight loss goals and how we can serve you best.

What can I expect in terms of results?

We have a very high success rate at Shulman Weight Loss. Approximately 85% of our clients lose weight and approximately 65% keep it off (which is very high in the weight loss world)!
Average weight loss results are:

Lean 1 (3 months)

15-25 pounds

Lean 2 (6 months)

30-50 pounds

Lean 3 (12 months)

> 60 pounds

Please note: Average weight loss results are between 2-4 pounds per week.

Our approach has helped thousands of Canadians lose excess weight in an easy to follow and long lasting manner.

I have hit menopause and have noticed my tummy starting to bulge. Will this help?

Yes. This is all the more reason to ensure your hormones are balanced with food. The weight that you will lose at Shulman Weight Loss is not muscle wasting weight – it is pure fat. Thus, you will notice significant inch loss around your abdominal region and hips. This is especially important when peri or post menopausal.

Do you see men at Shulman Weight Loss?

Of course we do! Hormonal weight loss does not mean that our programs are designed for women only. The program is equally effective for men of all ages. Our Shulman Weight Loss men have lost anywhere from 10-80 pounds!

  • The Shulman Weight Loss reference manual – includes grocery lists, meal plans and food intake system
  • Food journal and personalized metabolism tracking system
  • Weekly sessions – designed for weigh ins, circumference measurements, new meal plans and recipes and one on one meeting with your nutritionist.
  • Seminars – topics vary from emotional eating, to dealing with menopause and how to boost your metabolism. Schedules will be available for sign up.
  • Recommended products of the week for tasty options
  • On line support

What is the cost of the program?

The cost depends on your individual weight loss needs. We recommend you book in for a free initial assessment to determine if our program is a fit for you. Following your free initial assessment, a highly qualified nutritionist will determine your healthy weight range and the program personalized to your needs. The program will take into account your health history, current weight, previous weight loss attempts and your age. Programs vary in length from 3 months, 6 months and 12 months. Distance plans are also available for those who live out of town.

Do you see children at Shulman Weight Loss?

Yes we do. However, our approach with children is very different than our approach with adults. While we offer plans that maximize weight loss and optimize growth and development, our emphasis is on establishing healthy food principles. The word “diet” is never allowed in our meetings with children. We make it as fun and interactive as possible for parent and child.

We are very proud to have some of Canada’s top nutritionists working at Shulman Weight Loss Clinic.  In addition to weight loss, our nutritionists are also available to see clients for one hour consults for the following:

Is Dr. Joey Shulman a medical doctor?

No, Dr. Joey Shulman is a doctor of chiropractic and a registered holistic nutritionist. Although a big advocate of chiropractic, Dr. Joey no longer practices and has dedicated her career to weight loss and her nutritional practice, research and writing.

Do I need a referral from my doctor to follow your program?

No, you do not. Our programs are not covered by OHIP and are covered by some insurance plans. We welcome working with your doctors and specialist if required and are happy to forward our meal plan recommendations and nutritional protocol upon request.
